First of all I need to let you know that this week's session on Friday 29 March has a theme and it has been extended (blame me) to "April Fools, Mothering Sunday and Lady Day". Make of that what you will. Traditionally we have interpreted April fools as nonsense, good and bad luck but it's up to you to apply your own interpretation.
Last week on the other hand had no theme, although there were a lot of left-overs and good pickings from the previous week's St Patrick's Day session. Colin unintentionally started us off straight into a mini-theme with A Frog He Would A-Wooing Go (Roud 16) which Geoff followed up with The Vicar And The Frog (Stan Crowther). I won't comment on how appropriate Derek's first song was to this ad hoc thread but he did suggest The Bonny Bunch Of Roses (Roud 664, Laws J5).
We had two very different songs from the pen of Leon Rosselson. First it was Simon with You Need Skin and later Colin with The World Turned Upside Down.
Mike's notable contribution of the evening was Seven Drunken Nights (Roud 114, Child 274). This was effectively a repeat of Colin's song from the week before though Colin stops at Friday. Mike on the other hand powered through to Sunday in suitably fruity though apparently self-penned fashion.
The session came to an end with Simon singing his well-worn finishing off song, When All Men Sing (Keith Scowcroft, Derek Gifford) which always gets everyone singing.
Here's a selection of songs sung during this session.
