There was a decent turnout for last week's Dragon Folk Club session. I have to admit that I wasn't there. What's more I'm running out of time to write this report, so I hope I have got all of the songs correct, and I will apologise for its brevity. I hope service will be back to normal next week.

Colin started out on his own, uncertain of who would join him. Only the walls were there to listen to him sing Roy Wood's Flowers in the Rain.

Gradually others appeared, first Paul and Denny, then Geoff and finally Steve and Jane.

The only song of the evening not in represented in the YouTube playlist is Steve Thomason's Tracks in the Snow sung by Paul.

Of course Jane provided a wealth of stories telling of:

• The silver (golden) fish or the vinegar jar
• King Solomon's song bird
• The nightmare story
• Poem - An Irish Airman Foresees His Death (W B Yeats)
• A short story about parenting

Colin finished the evening off with Air Fa La La Lo - a traditional gaelic song translated by Hugh S. Roberton.

St Andrew's Day 2022

So I failed last week. I said there wouldn't be a theme and there was. We were very close to St Andrew's Day and so the two of us who turned up managed to sing almost exclusively Scottish songs.

Before I move on there is a very important announcement about our upcoming sessions over the next few weeks, December 2022 into January 2023.

• Friday 9th December the session will have no theme
• Friday 16th December will be our Christmas themed session
• Friday 23rd December there will be no session.
• Friday 30th December there will be no session.
• Friday 6th January will be our New Year / Twelfth Night themed session

Having noted the Fridays when we don't have a session, please come along when there is one to swell the ranks whether to sing, play, recite or to listen.

Back down to last Friday, Colin gave me a bit of a challenge with his first two songs, neither of which could be found on YouTube. He started the evening off with Loch Ness Monster (Iain C MacKintosh, Hamish Imlach) and continued with Canadian Jean Blewett's poem St Andrew's Day - A Toast, which Colin put to music.

Simon's first song of the evening was The Handweaver and the Factory Maid (roud 17771)

You can listen to all of the other songs we sang in the playlist linked below except for a song which Colin offered called The Broo Road of which I have failed to find any trace.

It was also Colin who finished off the evening with Air falalalo.

Waulking back to happiness

Unfortunately the main gents toilet was out of order this week, so as happens on such occasions we had quite a lot of traffic through the function room, though most people were respectfully quiet. Of special note were three young lads who Maggie S asked to be quiet; not only were they quiet but Maggie was very impressed that they thanked her for letting them come through.

Not so happy was the traverse of one well oiled individual, who managed to knock over Alan K's guitar. No serious damage appears to have been done and he was profusely apologetic; not only that, but he stayed to hear the first song, and enjoyed it. Will we see him again when he's a little less relaxed?
